"Do you not know that your bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own" 1 Corinthians 6:19
"For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the one to come" 1 Timothy 5:23
If our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, wouldn’t you think we ought to take good care of our bodies?
Because God and the Holy Spirit actually live in our bodies we should want to take good care of ourselves and represent ourselves as God would want us too. So that would mean; Eating healthy, exercising, taking care of our soul (reading the Bible, spending time with God) and just keeping our body and soul in shape. This reminds me of an experience I just had. I recently had really bad back pain followed by four seizures which was really scary and out of the ordinary for me. The back pain caused me to not really be able to move. To be honest, I never thought that it would happen to me. I knew God was taking care of me though and wasn't too worried, but at the same time I was scared.
The reason this all happened was because of severe dehydration and low blood pressure. Plus, any time seizures happen to someone who has 22q Deletion Syndrome they have to get their calcium levels checked right away. Luckily, all my test results came back normal. To be honest, I was a little scared when all this happened but I did not fear it because I knew God was with me. I could feel Him and He and my Aunt and cousin were the ones who were helping me through it all. The fact that all of this happened reminded me that we really have to take good care of our bodies; the body that God gave to us. It probably hurts God to see us not taking good care of our bodies. Don't you think? For me, I need to be very sure to stay hydrated by drinking lots of water every day. It also means keeping our soul in shape too. The part really belongs to God and that will live forever? Once we ask God into our lives our body is not our own. If we don't read the bible for a few weeks as Christians or spend time with God it's like not eating for a couple weeks and then our body gets tired. Our soul will feel tired and weary without feeding it God’s word. So make sure every day and every week that you are taking care of your body and soul. Have this be your reminder of how important it is. Because as we take good care of our bodies and soul it helps us represent ourselves better in the world. It also allows God to work easier through us.
So are you taking care of your body and soul as God would want you too?
Is there anything your not doing that you know you're supposed to be doing? Maybe your not eating healthy enough or for your soul haven't been reading God's word?
What should you start working on again?
