It was a little bit after or before thanksgiving when my Mom and I decided to go to Baker book house to get some work done. I was determined to get some writing done. A little bit after we sat down an older man in about his 70's-80's got his coffee drink and sat down by the table next to us. After a little while of sitting there the man who we didn't know started talking to us and telling us stories and talking a lot about the Bible and such and his opinions, which, he could remember a lot if I might say. After talking for about 5 minutes we were hoping he would stop talking so my Mom and I could work on some writing and work. He continued talking. Of course in this situation you just have to be nice and have a smile on your face. He talked about how he lost his wife years ago and how he still misses her and such. During the holidays some people tend to get lonely because whatever is going around in your life and who you keep in touch with will be around you during the holiday's too. This man just needed someone to talk too.
This story goes to show me that maybe not everyone around you always has someone to talk to or be around. Sometimes like this example someone at a coffee shop who's sitting alone might just need someone to talk too or who needs someone to be a listening ear. It's important during the holidays but not just the holiday's but during the years and summers to come and do what Jesus would do. Here are 7 things you could do for others this year to make the holiday season better...
1. Put others before yourself
2.Be a listening ear
3,. Be a helping hand
4.When you see someone sitting alone at school or work be the first to approach
5. Believe in your friends and encourage them to follow their dreams
6.Give instead of receiving
7. Be the first to be kind to others
Some of these ideas are just a few tips to help you to have a better holiday and better years to come. To be
more like Christ in your life. It's important for us Christians to be a light of the world instead of bringing others down and not being kind. We already have a lot of people in our world who are not so kind or who treat people poorly. We need more people to act more like Christ.
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
